The president of the Garden City University of College (GCUC) Emeritus Professor Anthony Apeke Adimado, has admonished students of the university not to allow peer pressure to distract them as such influences could be counterproductive.

He said the freedom offered by university life was such that students could easily fall prey to the lure of peer pressure which could negatively affect their education.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony organised by the University for its August admission, Prof Adimado urged the students to remain steadfast and focus in order to complete their course successfully.

ADVICE:
According to him, “it is your level of commitment to your academic work that will determine the degree and level of your performance in all your assessments and examinations at the end of each semester.

“I therefore urge you not to allow any peer extraneous influences to distract your attention from your academic work. Such influences can be counterproductive,” he said.

RULES:
Like any other university, he said GCUC was governed by rules and regulations to guide the conduct and activities while on campus.

These guidelines, he explained, were contained in the Students Information Handbook and urged the students to make the handbook their friend in order to be abreast with the rules and regulations governing the university.

“These rules are not just cosmetic designs; they are meant to be obeyed.  There are sanctions for violating them with a view to enforcing discipline in the system,” he stated.

COMFORT:
Prof Adimado said GCUC has put in place machinery and facilities to make life comfortable for all students.

According to him, “conducive and congenial teaching and learning environment has also been created in this University.”

He was therefore hopeful that the students will take advantage of the provisions to enhance their learning.

“The only dignifying road to success is oneness of purpose, honesty, and hard work. Should you take that course, I assure you that you will reap the fruits through awards and garlands at the appropriate time. Our joy and pride as parents and teachers alike, is your success. We will therefore continue to wish you all well,” Prof Adimado stated.

The matriculation took place in person and virtually at all the learning centres of the university throughout the country.
