Appoints New Registrar, Nana Kwaku Owusu-Kwarteng, PhD
Nana Kwaku Owusu-Kwarteng, PhD (aka Nana Wiafe Brobbey Kwarteng, Nana Maasehene, Maase-Offinso, Ashanti Region) was appointed as the Registrar by the Governing Council of the Garden City University College, Kenyase - Kumasi; and assumed duty on October 1, 2016 for a four-year tenure. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Education Administration (M.Ed), Master of Arts International Affairs (MAIA) and Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, USA; and a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) and Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast, Ghana.
Nana K. Owusu-Kwarteng, PhD previously served as the Director, Office for Institutional Advancement (OIA), University of Education, Winneba (UEW) from April 2006 to September 2016. He coordinated UEW's gift solicitation, fund raising, sponsorship, alumni programs and endowment trust fund management as Member / Secretary, Board of Trustees, UEW Endowment Trust Fund. He had earlier served as Assistant Director, Institute for the African Child, Ohio University, Athens, Ohio; Acting Deputy Secretary, Ghana Education Service Council; and prior to his doctorate program, coordinated IPPD Implementation and Circuit Supervisors supervision at the Accra Metropolitan Education Office, Kinbu - Accra.
He taught sixth form and other classes at St Louis Girls Secondary School, Kumasi, Abuakwa State College, Kibi and Mpreaso Secondary School, Mpreaso. He has been involved in university administration and public sector education administration for two decades; academic, community fund raising and sponsorship programs for several years.
Nana has a number of published and unpublished works to his credit; presented invited papers at various local, national and international fora and won a CASE Speaker's Award in 2009. He has participated in and also organized a number of local and international workshops, seminars and conferences on leadership and institutional advancement. He is a member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Beta Lota (Honor Society for International Scholars), African Studies Association (ASA), and a former member of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and other bodies.
He has served terms on the boards of St Patrick’s Hospital, Maase-Offinso and Dwamena Akenten Senior High School, Offinso. He recently served as a board member and chairman, Radio Peace, Winneba and Member / Secretary, University of Education, Winneba Endowment Trust Fund. He chaired and served on a number of UEW Committees and other bodies including membership of the Strategic Plan Committees 2009 - 2013 and 2014 - 2018.
He has occupied the position of Nana Maasehene (Chief of Maase), Maase-Offinso since his enstoolment in April 1991; is a member of the Offinso Traditional Council and has served on a number of its committees.
He is married to Mrs. Sally Owusu-Kwarteng, an educator. They are blessed with three adult children - a man and two young women, two biological grandchildren, numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Nana is a practicing Roman Catholic. His hobbies comprise reading, music, tree planting, nature watch and sports including walking.
